Grimmfest, Manchester’s International Festival of Fantastic Film, returns to Odeon Great Northern, Manchester, from 8–11 October for its 2026 edition.

This year’s feature film line-up brings an extraordinary collection of genre talent to the big screen, including Luke Hemsworth (WESTWORLD), Barbara Crampton (RE-ANIMATOR), Asia Argento (LAND OF THE DEAD), Maribel Verdú (PAN’S LABYRINTH), Belén Rueda (THE ORPHANAGE), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (THE TUDORS), Kevin Durand (ABIGAIL), Alyssa Sutherland (EVIL DEAD RISE), Toby Stephens (DIE ANOTHER DAY) and Matilda Lutz (REVENGE), among many others.

THE FOG — OPENING FILM

The festival kicks off with a special screening of John Carpenter’s classic THE FOG, with this year’s Grimmfest Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Adrienne Barbeau in attendance to accept the award and take part in a special Q&A.

Victorian Vile — Period Horror Strand

ITHAQUA — Hammer presents the Northern UK Premiere of Casey Walker’s gripping 1800s frontier horror, starring Luke Hemsworth and Kevin Durand, in an indigenous tale of myths and madness.

MOTHERWITCH — Cyprus, 1882. Eleni, a bereaved painter reaches into the shadows to resurrect her lost children, but instead summons the ancient Kalikantzari of Cypriot lore. She must now confront the storm of her grief and anger, and lift the curse.

THE ONES WHO GRIEVE — At the end of the 19th century, on an isolated farm, Zélie is trapped under the authority of her father, Jacob, a deeply religious man. As a mysterious disease known as the “Black Veil” ravages the surrounding countryside and faith begins to blur with madness, she must fight to preserve her humanity and claim her freedom.

MĀRAMA — A young Maori woman fights to keep her identity in mid-19th century England.

Spanish Screams — A Brand New Strand

THEY ALWAYS COME AT NIGHT — Galicia, 1976. An already awkward family dinner is being constantly interrupted by calls from an increasingly hysterical neighbour warning of hooded figures emerging from the mist: A Santa Compaña. But what seems at first like a paranoid breakdown soon develops into a ritualistic siege.

UNDER YOUR FEET — Newly divorced Isabel moves with her two children into an exclusive apartment building with an unexpectedly affordable rental fee – and a very peculiar approval procedure. But the increasingly bizarre sounds from the three elderly neighbours downstairs soon start to disturb more than their peace…

DISFORIA — In a city ravaged by looting and economic collapse, married couple Esther and Tomás make a desperate choice: to flee with their young daughter to their country house, bought in better days, with hopes of selling it quickly and escaping to a safer country. But their plan unravels overnight. The morning after they arrive, Esther wakes to find Tomás missing—and a stranger standing at the door. What was meant to be the beginning of a new life spirals into a violent nightmare.

REVERSION — Mario moves to a new house with his parents and his older brother, Carlos. One rainy afternoon, Mario witnesses his brother being kidnapped. After 19 days of agonizing waiting, Carlos returns a different man, with no recollection of what happened to him. Mario searches for the truth behind the kidnapping, but what he discovers will make him doubt his own sanity.

EVIL DRESS — After a difficult divorce, Alicia moves into an old house with her daughter Carla, unaware that it hides a tragic history. A blue dress discovered in the attic connects Carla to a girl from the past, triggering terrifying events, and Alicia begins to doubt her own sanity. Their only chance is to flee… but the house won’t let them get away so easily.

THE WHISPER — Fleeing from their violent father, siblings Lucía and Adrián take refuge in a remote mansion. Buit Lucía uncovers a terrifying secret: their neighbours are part of a criminal network that kidnaps teenage girls to make snuff films, and they intend to get rid of the siblings. As Lucía fights to protect her brother, she must face a dark family curse that follows them into their newfound sanctuary.

New Nightmares

CRAWLERS — Tenants at Paradiso Palms apartments fight a deadly spider invasion while the cunning building manager might be their only hope for survival.

BOXCUTTER — After a fatal car accident, a family is plunged into an unimaginable nightmare where every choice may cost them everything.

NEVER AFTER DARK — A travelling psychic who helps lost souls cross over encounters a powerful entity at a remote house. While investigating its origins, she uncovers dark secrets and faces a deadly threat from an unexpected source.

THE ROOM BELOW —  After losing her son to cancer, a grieving mother befriends another boy to replace her dead son, but her plans unravel when a retired detective starts searching for the missing child, and she begins to suspect there is something supernatural living in the basement.

IVAN — Abigail is thrilled when her estranged father reappears, gifting her a cutting-edge AI device named Ivan. However, she soon realises that he has an ulterior motive. And the device is not quite what it seems…

STRONGER THAN THE DEVIL — Asia Argento heads an astonishing ensemble cast in Graham Guit’s brutal, breakneck-paced, pitch-black multi-character crime comedy.

NORTHERN UK PREMIERES

DEATHGASM 2: GOREMAGEDDON — Jason Lei Howden’s long-awaited and bat-shit-crazy sequel to the Grimmfest 2014 crowd-pleaser promises to turn the volume — and the gore — all the way up past 11.

GRIND — Four twisted tales of life as an employee of a modern day Multinational…

THE GLORIOUS DEAD — A small-town sheriff and her deputy awaken to a changed world where blood drips from taps, people vanish, creatures roam the woods, and the dead rise as the town descends into chaos.

ODDITIES — Expanding his Grimmfest 2023 short, Tyler Savage’s Oddities reunites with Adrienne Barbeau while adding Lilimar, Lovie Simone, Xander Berkeley and Will Oldham. The result is a richly atmospheric slice of Lovecraftian horror with more than a touch of Tobe Hooper.

SICKO — A cash-strapped couple hatch a plan to solve their money troubles by faking illness, but soon become embroiled in a toxic web of social media, violent criminality and spiralling greed.

TERRESTRIAL — A rising sci-fi author welcomes three college friends to his home, but strange events begin to blur the lines between reality and imagination.

Full festival passes are available now at the Grimmfest official site. The festival runs as a live event across four days with numerous film premieres to watch on the big screen and other associated activities that horror and genre cinema fans can attend. Grimmfest is also now officially a BIFA-qualifying festival for both Shorts and Features, making it a key event on the UK genre calendar.
